Our client is seeking a Capacity Analyst to join their existing team for a 12 month contract.
This individual will be responsible for managing the environments as well as forecasting of capacity needs. Within the role, additional responsibilities including managing the virtualization or physical servers and managing against standard performance thresholds. This person will work directly with the Infrastructure Capacity Manager as well as working with client contacts, migration project managers and Data Center Management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
--Planning, provisioning, and ongoing environment management tasks.
--Following existing processes and procedures for managing VMware, including provisioning new VM capacity and managing P2V migrations and capacity monitoring for the VMware ESX farm.
--Developing and maintaining a performance monitoring and trending process for the VMware environments globally.
--In conjunction with engineering staff, manage roll out and upgrades of ESX 2.5 systems to VI3 with minimal impact to client applications.
--Maintain existing and develop new reporting procedures as required.
--Manage and report on virtualization activity weekly. Ensure P2V and V2V activities are completed according to procedure.
--Define integration points between application support processes and VMware management functions.
--Planning and execution of P2V migrations, other VMware planning, analysis and execution activities.
--Performance monitoring, capacity analysis/engineering for VMware farm.
--Participation in support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution for VMware environment.
--Cross-train Infrastructure Capacity Management and other operations staff on day to day VMware activities and tasks for coverage purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
--2 yrs experience supporting VMware server, including experience in:
-VMware ESX Server 2.5/Virtual Center 1
-Virtual Infrastructure 3/Virtual Center 2
-VMotion
-HA (High Availability)
-DRS (Dynamic Resource Scheduler)
-Consolidated Backup
-PlateSpin PowerConvert (P2V, V2V)
-VMware architectural planning/target selection
--Understanding of the following technologies as they relate to VMware ESX Server:
-General server hardware technologies
-RAID technologies
-SAN concepts/technologies
-General networking concepts
-TCP/IP fundamentals and related applications/protocols (DNS, HTTP, FTP, SSH)
--Familiarity with service management principles (change/incident/problem management)
