The city of East Hartford is located in Hartford County in Connecticut. East Hartford has a population of about 49,173 people and a median household income level of $41,424. The city is located just to the east of the capital and is a quick drive on interstate 84 for daily commuters into Hartford. East Hartford is home to several major employers. Coca-Cola has a large bottling plant in the city, and Pratt and Whitney is based here as well. Pratt and Whitney, a division of United Technologies, employs about five thousand people and its manufacturing plant takes up a great deal of the city’s total area. East Hartford is also the residence of Rentschler Field, home of the University of Connecticut’s football team. This field was constructed in 2003 on a section of Pratt and Whitney’s old airfield. In addition to football games, the field has hosted concerts by numerous artists, including Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, and The Police. In 2007, Cabela’s (“The World’s Foremost Outfitter”) moved into town opening a large, 185,000 square foot, “super center”. The center features interactive displays, classrooms, merchandise, and a restaurant. East Hartford continues to grow with plans of attracting technology companies, building hotels, and adding many more retail stores.
