Wilton has a strong historic background and has recently seen an increase in the preservation of the town’s historic buildings. It has been estimated that there are more than five hundred restored 18th and 19th century homes in town. This restoration increase coincides with a push to preserve the towns open space. Over the past ten years, the residents of the town have approved spending over $23 million to purchase and preserve land. The town of Wilton is quite proud of its school system and boasts no more than a 19 to 1 student to teacher ratio, with some schools having a 13 to 1 ratio. Over ninety-one percent of students graduating from Wilton public schools have gone on to attend four-year institutions. The town focuses on a well-rounded education program with special accelerated classes for gifted students, music and visual arts programs, and a groundbreaking foreign language program that offers Spanish, Russian, French, Latin, and German. The schools also possess numerous FCIAC and state athletic titles. Wilton schools have won more lacrosse state championships than any other town in Connecticut.
